However, Atma Connect, a U.S. not-for-profit tech company, working closely with FHI 360’s MADANI Civil Society Support Initiative and its grassroots partners, has strengthened Indonesia’s response to the pandemic and community resilience while amplifying the voices of CSOs working for a brighter future. AtmaGo, the organization’s mobile platform, is proud to have now reached 3 million vulnerable people in Indonesia since January 2020, and is gearing up to empower many more. AtmaGo helps people in vulnerable communities connect with one another and unlock the power and brilliance that is already within them by sharing resources and information in ways that build stronger communities. Combined with programming, such as trainings on citizen journalism and countering disinformation, which occurred virtually on Zoom, the AtmaGo application has engaged and empowered dozens of organizations to engage constituents in their community efforts, sustain behavior change to prevent the spread of COVID-19, combat misinformation, and facilitate economic opportunity for workers and small businesses. The work has advanced MADANI’s key objectives, such as boosting civil society’s effectiveness,, by fostering positive pro-social impact, promoting behavior change at the community level, and countering disinformation. Atma Connect’s work also helps pinpoint and address local residents’ top concerns. In a June 2021 pop-up survey by AtmaGo, 90% of 711 respondents said the leading community concern was unemployment and the economic downturn. In addition, 48% of respondents reported their concern that government assistance was not on target, and 37% said that hoax information about COVID-19 was increasing. These are issues that AtmaGo and MADANI will continue to address.
