Collaboration between the National Alms Agency and MADANI Lead CSO Partner in Bulukumba, South Sulawesi

In September, 2020, MADANI CSO partner in Bulukumba(South Sulawesi) Nasyiatul Aisyiyah (PDNA), the young women’s branch of Muhammadiyah’s nation-wide women’s organization, signed an initial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bulukumba branch of the National Alms Agency (Badan Amal Nasional or BAZNAS).

The aim of the MoU is to lower maternal and neonatal mortality in Bulukumba. After the signing of the MoU, PDNA and BAZNAS has jointly at a number of occasions distributed food packages to pregnant women in poor communities. As a follow-up on the MoU, on June 2, 2021, the PDNA Bulukumba management team were received by the chair of BAZNAS Bulukumba. The meeting discussed how the collaboration could be intensified and involve other local CSOs in Bulukumba through the MADANI Learning Forum. PDNA presented the second year action plan, including the focus on reducing maternal and neo-natal mortality through strengthening a community based “Maternal and Neonatal Health Forum” in three the pilot villages. BAZNAS Bulukumbawelcomed this program, and proposed collaboration with the itsprogram on mosque-based stunting, using the village mosque as a community center. As a follow-up, BAZNAS and PDNA will explore concrete cost-sharing of activities in the pilot villages, and possible replication in other villages.
