Since joining the MADANI program in 2020, GPP has transformed into a formidable advocate for the protection of women and girls. For example, the Jember Police, Courts, and Prosecutors’ Office has appointed GPP as their main referral when handling cases of domestic and gender-based violence, including providing legal counsel to victims. On May 25, 2022, GPP signed a new memorandum of understanding with UNIPAR, the local university in Jember, to combat gender-based violence on its campus. After a 2021 harassment incident involving senior academic staff, UNIPAR is determined to create a safer environment for staff and students. GPP will work closely with the university’s Center for Gender and Child Studies to provide seminars and trainings on gender-based violence for staff and students, establish a taskforce, and offer counseling services for victims.
