PATTIRO has successfully changed the perception and behavior of local communities, as well as the government, with regards to recycling and garbage removal. In April 2023, Pertamina Hulu Energy, which is a member of the MADANI Learning Forum and a subsidiary of a state-owned oil and gas company, donated an industrial-grade plastic shredder to the village government in Pegundan, one of MADANI’s target areas. The shredder will empower the community to more effectively recycle plastic waste, as it breaks down plastic materials into reusable pieces. Pertamina’s support demonstrates that MADANI partner CSOs, through their increased credibility and professionalism, are able to secure private sector engagement to achieve local development solutions.
