As a result, the district’s River Basin Agency ordered more than 30 restaurants to implement responsible waste disposal or face closure. In response, MADANI Partner CSO Yayasan Bumi Sawerigading (YBS), based in Palopo, was invited to Gowa to lead an integrated organic waste management workshop for members of the local restaurant association. During the workshop association on September 27, 2022, YBS shared their experience utilizing the black soldier fly as a biowaste treatment, turning organic waste into liquid fertilizer, compost, and protein for animal feed, reducing improper waste disposal while also creating economic value for restaurant owners. As MADANI partner CSOs continue to strengthen their relationships with communities, businesses, local governments, they also enhance their legitimacy and leadership role in Indonesian society.

The Bili-Bili Dam in Gowa, South Sulawesi serves a variety of purposes, including flood control, irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and as a tourist attraction. However, the dam is threated by pollution, as local restaurants and customers dump waste into the surrounding waters.
