MADANI Partner CSOs Advocates for Streamlining Regulations on Village Elections
MADANI’s CSO partner LEKRAC and the Learning Forum MABACA monitored village elections late last year in Pangkep (South Sulawesi).
Afterwards, they submitted a recommendation to the local government with regards to conflicting regulations on village development, which undermined efforts to provide clear guidance on the village electoral process. As a result, on 7 September 2022, the Pangkep government held a workshop – attended by more than 200 representatives from academia, local government, and civil society – in which the participants decided to revise relevant local regulations. A multi-stakeholder team (including MADANI partners) will proceed to gather inputs and draft recommendations. In addition, meeting attendees also recommended that CSOs serve as independent observers in the next round of village elections, which will be held later this year.
