MADANI Support Improves the Mental Well-being of Pregnant Women
Untreated stress, depression, and anxiety during pregnancy have been linked to health complications during birth and for the baby.
Therefore, access to mental health services – especially for vulnerable populations – is important to help women cope with the intense experiences related to pregnancy. MADANI Partner CSO Pimpinan Daerah Nasyiatul Aisyiyah (PDNA) in Garut (West Java) worked with psychologists to train 32 health volunteers from the Government of Indonesia’s Family Welfare Movement (PKK) in Garut on mental health issues for women during pregnancy and post-delivery. The training, which took place from 20-21 October, was opened by the wife of the Garut Regent and was part of PDNA’s approach to assist the district government and communities in reducing maternal and child mortality. In the last two years with MADANI, PDNA has deepened their collaboration with various parties and has become more knowledgeable and relevant in addressing development challenges in the district.
