USAID MADANI Hosts Roundtable Discussion on Diversity, Tolerance, and Social Inclusion
Since the start of democratization twenty-five years ago, a variety of challenges persist in Indonesia, including a stagnating democracy, increased social exclusion, and uneven public service delivery.
On 21 February 2023, USAID MADANI hosted a high-level roundtable discussion with six civil society representatives and Ms. Neneh Diallo, the USAID Chief Diversity Officer, in Surakarta (Central Java). The civil society representatives from Central Java presented prominent development issues in the region and how civil society have responded to these challenges. The discussion provided invaluable insight into the dynamics of social diversity, religious tolerance, local democracy, and women’s empowerment, and how addressing these themes can intersect to create a more inclusive society in Indonesia.
