USAID MADANI Partners Collaborate with Local Government to Spur Economic Development
As part of a broader program to bolster the post-COVID economic recovery in the City of Madiun (East Java) in 2022, USAID MADANI’s CSO partner, Yayasan Bambu Nusantara (YBN), and the FORPEMMA Learning Forum piloted an initiative to support food vendor stalls in two urban neighborhoods.
Recognizing the success of the initiative, the Madiun local government announced in early 2023 their interest in replicating it to 27 additional neighborhoods. However, local government funding was only available to cover an initial mapping and selection of goods to sell. As a result, the Madiun local government requested funding through the Regional Incentive Grants program, which is a national government scheme to support local innovations. Upon approval of the grant, the Madiun local government launched an online and on-site marketing program in August 2023. Furthermore, the Madiun local government has entrusted the management of the grant to YBN and FORPEMMA, which has already identified one CSO member in each neighborhood to facilitate the program and provide capacity support.
