Women’s Organization Actively Engages in Decision-making in Village Development Planning
In community planning, one obstacle to promoting the priorities of women and children is the planner’s lack of understanding with regards to how development issues uniquely impact girls and women.
On 20 August 2022, MADANI CSO partner Aisyiyah Serang and its grassroots organization Mawar Desa, in collaboration with the Serang (Banten) government, piloted a new village council design, which empowers women to organize and manage regular planning events to discuss salient matters related to advancing gender equality, social welfare, and child-friendly villages. The Agency for Village and Community Empowerment in Serang has made a verbal commitment to promote this design in all 326 villages across the district. Mawar Desa will monitor the gradual implementation, to ensure that village governments prioritize programs that respond specifically to women and children’s needs in their Village Work Plan and Village Budget.
