
To address this, MADANI Lead Partner PKBI Singkawang issued a policy paper in late 2021 that recommended the provision of teaching assistants and special study rooms, improved training for teachers, and the development of a standard operating procedure for inclusive schools. In April 2022, PKBI Singkawang followed up with a citizen complaint handling survey as a social accountability tool to hold the city administration accountable. On 27 June 2022, the Singkawang City Government responded by launching together with PKBI a Service Improvement Charter to enhance inclusive education at four selected public primary schools. This landmark achievement is a direct result of peer learning and interaction by PKBI Singkawang with CSO partners in Tasikmalaya (West Java), which had launched its Service Improvement Charter earlier this year.
