Klaten District Involves USAID MADANI Learning Forum to Protect Women and Children from Abuse

Dec 10, 2022

In line with a national campaign to promote “Women-Friendly and Child-Nurturing Communities,” the District of Klaten (Central Java) launched a virtual hotline for women and children who are survivors of abuse on 24 November 2022. USAID MADANI’s local CSO partner Persepsi and the multi-stakeholder learning forum were part of the government feasibility team who provided feedback on the design.

One of the team’s recommendations was to implement a 24-hour hotline service that is easily accessible through a mobile app by everyone – including people with disabilities. The app allows users to report incidents of domestic violence in their neighborhood, among other features. The CSO contribution to this process further demonstrates local government’s increased level of trust towards civil society, which lead to such a collaborative effort.
