USAID-MADANI Civil Society Support Initiative’s Closing Event on January 25, 2024 in Jakarta
After almost five years of operation, on January 25, 2024, the USAID-funded MADANI Civil Society Support Initiative held its closing event in Jakarta. The all-day event brought together the project’s staff, USAID and Government of Indonesia representatives, local, provincial, and national partner organizations, local government champions, as well as other relevant stakeholders, such as Indonesian civil society activists and experts who have worked with the project, other development implementers and USAID projects.
The focus of the event was reflecting on MADANI’s accomplishments and lessons learned, particularly with regard to its collaborative governance model, and how all stakeholders can ensure that its impacts remain sustainable into the future. Keynote speakers included Erin Nicholson, USAID/Indonesia Deputy Mission Director, and representatives from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, the National Development Planning Agency, and a longtime civil society activist, Zoemrotin K. Susilo, whose training organization participated in the project. After a morning talk show format discussion featuring four MADANI civil society and local government champions, breakout discussions were held in the afternoon to foster discussion on topics such as CSO resource mobilization and collaborative governance for public service improvement.
MADANI’s partners also presented on their work at exhibition booths during breaks, proudly showcasing their work to attendees. Attended by 136 in-person and 107 online, it featured lively discussion, networking, and planning for the future – a fitting sendoff for the project.
