This is the result of a two-year campaign by civil society members of the MADANI-supported forum FORSEMA. Since 2021, FORSEMA has advocated for a more inclusive healthcare approach. Specifically, they have striven to improve access to health facilities and financing for patients who are not covered by the BPJS Healthcare Insurance Program, which is often the case for people with disabilities. FORSEMA’s advocacy utilized a collaborative approach – they reached out to the District Health Office, hospital administrators, and Puskesmas health clinics, as well as actively participated in multiple Development Planning Forums (Musrenbang). Through these efforts, they eventually convinced the District Health Office and the Kajen Hospital to fund this new ward.
