In 2022, the Boyolali Government enacted a decree to replicate the MADANI approach in all 267 villages in the district. In February 2023, LKTS and the District Health Agency assessed the readiness of these villages to implement the scale-up. Based on the results, and with technical assistance from LKTS and funding from the private sector, the Boyolali Government decided to support the first batch of 20 Alert Villages. The MADANI approach, which focuses on supporting citizen engagement to oversee community health centers, has contributed to reducing the district’s maternal mortality rate from 45 in 2021 to 20 in 2022, and infant mortality rate from 131 in 2021 to 93 in 2022.
